It has taken an extraordinarily long time for the Nationals' exhibition finale to arrive. And yet it still feels like it sneaked up on us without notice, doesn't it? Such is life when you've had a four-month hiatus in the middle of the exhibition season, then only three games upon returning to action.
This is the last chance the Nats will get, though, before facing the Yankees for real Thursday night. So if there's anyone or anything Davey Martinez still needs to look at before then, this is his last chance.
Patrick Corbin gets the start, his final tune-up before Sunday's start against the Yankees. Like Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg before him, Corbin will be looking for five innings and 75-80 pitches tonight. Look for several prominent relievers to also get in there tonight, notably Sean Doolittle and Daniel Hudson.
Tonight also is a return to action and final tune-up for our MASN crew, which has anxiously been waiting months to broadcast a game. Bob Carpenter, F.P. Santangelo and Alex Chappell have the call, but I'd be remiss if I didn't also give a special shout-out to the behind-the-scenes crew members who really make it all possible. They've been missed sorely during this long break, and they are facing their own unprecedented challenges to bring you tonight's game and many more the rest of the season.
