Steve Johnson and game updates (O's lose 11-0)

Pitcher Steve Johnson will take his injury-rehab assignment to Double-A Bowie for Saturday's game against Portland at Prince George's County Stadium. Johnson, on the disabled list with a strained left oblique, was 1-2 with a 5.49 ERA in four starts at Triple-A Norfolk. He threw two shutout innings with the Gulf Coast League Orioles to start his rehab assignment and allowed two runs in six innings in two starts with short-season Single-A Aberdeen. OK, I've stalled long enough... Miguel Gonzalez gave up nine runs in 3 2/3 innings tonight, including the first grand slam of Jason Castro's career. Only four were earned because of a two-out error by J.J. Hardy that let a run score and preceded the slam. T.J. McFarland replaced Gonzalez, who threw 86 pitches, including 56 for strikes. Gonzalez surrendered nine hits, walked two, struck out five and threw a wild pitch. After eight straight quality starts, he's allowed 15 runs (10 earned) and 17 hits in his last two starts covering 8 1/3 innings. The Astros loaded the bases with one out before LJ Hoes struck out for the second time tonight, making him 0-for-3. Jose Altuve grounded to Hardy and the rally appeared to die. Not so fast. Then it got ugly. The nine runs are a career high for Gonzalez and the most allowed by the Orioles since a 13-5 loss in Toronto on June 23. I'm assuming that they didn't think the day was done at 4 p.m. More on Robbie Grossman's home run: The ball landed on Eutaw St., the 71st in Camden Yards history, the fifth this year and the 43rd by an opponent. He's the second Astros player to do it following Lance Berkman on June 18, 2008. Update: Brett Wallace singled off McFarland in the sixth to increase the Astros' lead to 10-0. The Orioles are being shut out on only two hits by Brett Oberholtzer. Is it too late to trade for that right-handed bat? Tonight's attendance: 25,265 Update II: Francisco Rodriguez entered in the seventh and again gave up a home run to the first batter he faced, Matt Dominguez, who has a career-high four hits tonight. Rodriguez has surrendered two homers in three outings with the Orioles. Nick Markakis singled leading off the bottom of the seventh for the Orioles' third hit tonight. No confetti, though. Update III: Game over. Orioles lose to the Astros 11-0 while failing to score against Brett Oberholtzer, Chia-Jen Lo and Jose Cisnero. As if they ever stood a chance. The Orioles have been shut out two of the last three games after being shut out three times in their first 105 games. Steve Pearce and Nick Markakis each had two hits. Henry Urrutia made his first appearance in the field, playing left while Nate McLouth moved over to center. Manager Buck Showalter cleared his bench. He'd probably like to clear this game from his memory. Can executive vice president Dan Duquette trade it for a game-to-be-named-later?
