Steve Pearce drives in three as O's rally to beat Boston

It was a two-run double that gave the Orioles the lead tonight after losing a pair of two-run leads earlier in the game. The double came off the bat of Steve Pearce in the last of the eighth as the Orioles rallied to beat Boston, 6-5 in front of 36,556 at Camden Yards. Pearce's double scored pinch runner Nate McLouth and Danny Valencia, who slid in just ahead of the relay throw as the O's moved ahead. Pearce had two doubles and three RBIs. With the win, the Orioles have won 10 of 18 games this season against Boston and will win the season series for the second year in a row for the first time since 1991-92. The O's are 29-16 in their last 45 games vs. Boston. Jim Johnson pitched the ninth to record his 49th save of this season and his 100th of the last two years. Kevin Gausman got the win in relief. Boston took a 5-4 lead with a two-run, three-hit top of the seventh. The go-ahead run scored when O's left fielder Jason Pridie bobbled a single off the bat of Daniel Nava and Dustin Pedroia scored. Nava went 4-for-4. For the fifth time in his last seven starts, Wei-Yin Chen pitched fewer than six innings. He went 5 1/3 innings allowing nine hits and three runs, throwing 96 pitches. Chen finished the season 7-7 with an ERA of 4.07. He pitched to an ERA of 6.62 over his final seven starts. The O's scored earlier on a Pearce RBI double in the second, a Brian Roberts solo homer in the third and RBI singles by Matt Wieters and Valencia in the fifth that put the O's ahead 4-2 at that point. The Orioles won for just the third time in the last 10 games and improved to 84-77 with the season finale set for Sunday at 1:35 p.m.
