Still a no-go on Givens (Ohlman money update)

The Orioles have a contract offer back on the table, should second-round draft pick Mychal Givens accept it before tonight's midnight deadline to sign draft picks. But O's scouting director Joe Jordan does not expect that to happen. "I'm not very optimistic. Both sides are pretty set where they are. I don't have any reason to think that will change. The final decision is up to them now." With the official signings today of 11th-round pick, catcher Micheal Ohlman from Bradenton, Florida and 28th-round pick, OF Kyle Hoppy from Orchard Park, New York the O's have signed 27 of their 50 draft picks. Baseball America reports Ohlman got a $ 995,000 signing bonus. Counting the $ 990,000 the club gave 22nd-round pick Cameron Coffey, the O's gave out the two largest signing bonuses this year to player taken after the tenth round. "I feel real good about this draft class, I really do," Jordan said. "This will be a good class once we get them on the field. We spent a lot of money this year, around 8 million dollars." While Hoppy will report to instructional league next month, Ohlman is expected to play in some games for the O's Gulf Coast League team before their season ends. Ohlman, who has been playing summer ball in Florida, will report to the O's GCL team tomorrow. "Ohlman is a big strong kid, around 6-4, 190. He can really throw and his defense has improved. He's my kind of guy, a real confident kid who loves to talk baseball. He's an offensive player too with some power potential."
