Stunning starters

With starting pitching like the Orioles are getting, who needs much offense? Okay, we all know the O's need more offense for next year, but consider the fact they scored just six runs in three games in the Tampa series, but won two of three. They scored just two runs in game two last night and won. In their last four wins, O's starters have allowed just one earned run with an ERA of 0.31: *Monday at Tampa: Matusz - 7IP, 3H, 0R, 2B, 8K. *Wednesday at Tampa: Millwood - 7IP, 2H, 0R, 3B, 7K. *Friday vs. Detroit: Tillman - 7IP, 3H, 1R-ER, 2B, 7K *Friday vs. Detroit: Guthrie - 8IP, 2H, 0R, 1B, 5K. TOTALS: 29IP, 10H, 1R-ER, 8B, 27K..........0.31 ERA. Yes, that is pretty good pitching. Some other notes from Friday's double-dip win: *The O's swept a doubleheader for the first time since June 28, 2006 vs. Philadelphia. *Adam Jones went 5 for 8 with two doubles, two runs and 4 RBI in the games. He had a season-high, 4 RBI in the game one win. In 21 games in September, Jones is batting .309-2-12 and he is batting .298 since the All-Star game. *In the 105 games before Buck Showalter took over, O's starting pitchers worked to an ERA of 5.61. In 55 games with Buck, the starting pitching ERA is 3.17 with 34 quality starts. The O's have recorded 78 quality starts this year after posting 58 last season. *The O's won 2-1 in game two over the Tigers despite making three errors and grounding into four double plays. *The Orioles went 10 for 19 with runners in scoring position in the twin bill. *The O's won game one 10-6, scoring 10 or more runs for the 6th time on the year. *With two games to go, O's home attendance for the year is 1,673,772 for an average of 21,459 per home date. *Guthrie went six innings or more in 28 of 32 starts this year. After winning just three of his first 19 starts in 2010, he went 8-4, 2.86 over his final 13 starts. *Koji Uehara has now recorded 43 strikeouts since his last walk. That is over 31 games and 33 innings. His last walk came on July 16 vs. Toronto. On the year, he has fanned 54 with just five walks over 43 innings. *The O's now have a home record of 36-43. By the way, if you missed a couple of my posts from yesterday, Nick Markakis talked about his season here and Buck Showalter indicated some possible free agents are already expressing interest in Baltimore here.
