Tempers flaring at Camden Yards (O's win 5-2, magic number is one)

The Orioles are trying to win a game tonight while not losing their composure. This is going to be a challenge. Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes became angry at catcher Caleb Joseph in the top of the fifth inning after diving across the plate to score on Danny Valencia's two-out single. Reyes' left hand slammed into Joseph's foot, leaving him in obvious pain. joseph-looking-over-in-gear-white-sidebar.jpgReyes apparently felt that Joseph was illegally blocking the plate, and he did some yapping on his way back to the dugout. At one point, Reyes stopped and turned toward the catcher before finally taking a seat on the bench. The incident carried over to Joseph's next at-bat with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, when Toronto starter Marcus Stroman sailed a pitch behind the catcher's head. Plate umpire Ted Barrett warned both benches, and Joseph struck out to end the inning. Stroman kept glaring at the Orioles dugout as he walked off the field, and a couple of players started to hop over the railing. Stroman made it to the bench without incident, but the Orioles were furious. Manager Buck Showalter came onto the field to talk to Barrett, and MASN cameras showed how agitated he was upon returning to the dugout. It's one thing to throw at a batter's leg, if deemed necessary for whatever reason, but throwing a pitch behind his head? It won't be forgotten. Stroman was replaced by left-hander Aaron Loup in the seventh. Probably a good idea. Wei-Yin Chen allowed two runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings, with one walk and six strikeouts. He threw 106 pitches, 74 for strikes. Update: Game over. The Orioles defeat the Blue Jays 5-2 at Camden Yards to move a season-high 30 games above .500 and reduce their magic number to one. The Orioles can clinch the American League East with a win Tuesday night. Zach Britton earned his 35th save by stranding runners on the corners.
