Three wins in three cities in three days not a first for Orioles

The Orioles have won three straight games in three different cities in three days for the first time since Sept. 7-9, 2011, according to the club's stellar and increasingly busy PR department. They defeated the Yankees 5-4 in New York, followed by a 5-4 walkoff win against the Yankees in Baltimore and a 2-0 victory over the Blue Jays in Toronto. The Orioles' winning pitchers in those three games? Pedro Strop, Clay Rapada and Jeremy Guthrie. Last night marked the first time that the Orioles' seventh through ninth hitters in the order homered in the same game since Sept. 2, 2007 against the Blue Jays - Jay Payton, J.R. House (pinch hitting for Paul Bako) and Luis Hernandez. Anyone remember that game? It was the first time that starters hitting seventh through ninth homered in the same game since Aug. 26, 1985 in a 17-3 win over the Angels - Gary Roenicke, John Shelby and Rick Dempsey. The Orioles homered seven times in that game, including three from Eddie Murray and one from Floyd Rayford. Anyone remember that game? The Orioles haven't announced their starters for the weekend series against the Cardinals at Camden Yards. Manager Buck Showalter was waiting until after Ubaldo Jimenez threw his bullpen session this afternoon. Showalter has to decide when to activate Jimenez from the disabled list and how to make room on the pitching staff. The Cardinals are starting Justin Masterson on Friday, followed by John Lackey and Lance Lynn. Caleb Joseph isn't in the lineup despite homering in three straight games, one shy of the Orioles' record for a catcher set by Ramon Hernandez (June 22-28, 2006) and Gus Triandos (June 13-19, 1959). The last Orioles catcher to homer in three straight games was Matt Wieters on Sept. 12-14, 2011. Over his last 10 games since July 22, Joseph is 12-for-35 (.343/.361/.686) with three home runs and five RBIs. The Orioles have scored 33 runs in four games at Rogers Centre this season for an average of 8.3 per game. That's more than they scored in nine games in 2010 (20) and matches their nine-game total from 2009. The last time that the Orioles had 10-plus hits in three or more games in a row in the same season in Toronto was April 16 to Aug. 13, 2004. Since the start of the 2012 season, Chris Davis has hit 20 homers against the Blue Jays (four this season), and Adam Jones has hit 15. The only other player in double digits against Toronto over the last three seasons is David Ortiz (12). Davis' 23 career homers against Toronto are his most against any team. According to STATS, his .668 career slugging percentage is the highest of any player all-time, (minimum 200 plate appearances.) Nelson Cruz is second (.610), ahead of Matt Stairs (.604) and Ken Griffey Jr. (.600). Nick Markakis now has 426 career multi-hit games, tying him with Brady Anderson for fourth on the club's all-time list. The Orioles still lead the majors with a 3.12 ERA at night. Their 34 road wins lead the American League and are tied with the Dodgers for first in the majors. The Orioles named Single-A Delmarva left-hander Luis Gonzalez the organization's Pitcher of the Month and Shorebirds infielder Drew Dosch the Player of the Month for July. Gonzalez was 4-0 with a 1.65 ERA in five starts. Dosch batted .364 (39-for-107) with a home run and 15 RBIs.
