Tillman facing loss despite quality start (O's lose 3-0)

The day ended for Chris Tillman this afternoon on a two-out single by Derek Jeter in the top of the seventh inning, the ball squirting into left field, the Yankees fans in attendance erupting again.

Tillman was charged with a third run when left-hander T.J. McFarland surrendered a looping double to right field by Jacoby Ellsbury.

Three runs in 6 2/3 innings can get you a win, but it's not happening today for Tillman.

That's because the Orioles are being shut out through seven innings by Shane Greene, making his second major league start and third appearance.

The Orioles have managed four hits - singles by Manny Machado and Flaherty in the fifth and by Nick Markakis and Steve Pearce in the sixth.

Markakis and Pearce reached with no outs, but Adam Jones bounced into a 4-3 double play and Nelson Cruz struck out for the third time today.

Greene has struck out nine today.

Jones was batting .303 with runners in scoring position this season and .326 with RISP and two outs.

Greene retired the first 10 Orioles before Pearce walked in the fourth. They didn't get their first hit until Machado singled with two outs in the fifth.

Tillman has six quality starts in his last seven outings. He didn't get a decision Monday night in D.C. after limiting the Nationals to two runs over seven innings.

He could get stuck with a loss today unless the Orioles rally.

The Orioles have two outfield assists, increasing their season total to 22. Markakis picked up his team-leading eighth and Jones registered his fourth - the most recent before today coming on June 20 at Yankee Stadium.

Today's attendance: 46,667, the seventh sellout of the season.

Update: Game over. The Orioles lose to the Yankees 3-0 and are shut out for the seventh time this season.

Ryan Webb retired all six batters he faced.

The Orioles are 51-42 overall and 14-19 in day games.

The Blue Jays are losing big at Tropicana Field, so the Orioles' lead in the American League East should hold at three games.
