Tillman finds that less is more

A day after giving up just one run and five hits over 6 2/3 innings, his best Major League start yet, Chris Tillman said pitching with less velocity led to better results. "Results-wise, I would say it was my best. But I don't think I pitched like myself. I kind of backed off on my velocity some, kind of stepped out of who I am. I just wanted to have a good outing to build off of. "I know the velocity would be there if I need it. I just wanted to see what would happen if I backed off to pitch with more command." The results he got included no strikeouts, but quicker innings using fewer pitches. He had a one-hit shutout going on just 46 pitches through four innings. On the MASN telecast last night, manager Dave Trembley said Tillman would make at least two more starts. He said the same today. "Right now I feel great," the 21-year-old Tillman said. "My worst day is the side day between starts. On my start days I feel strong right now. I want to pitch, I want to finish out the rest of the year. It's fun right now."
