Tillman named Game 1 starter

NEW YORK - Orioles manager Buck Showalter made the expected announcement today, naming Chris Tillman the Game 1 starter in the Division Series on Oct. 2 at Camden Yards. Showalter didn't reveal the other names, saying again that he's considering all the matchup possibilities while waiting on the opponent. However, Wei-Yin Chen is likely to start Game 2. It's just not official. tillman-pitch-gray-close-sidebar.jpgTillman is 13-5 with a 3.26 ERA in 33 starts. He's eclipsed 200 innings for the second year in a row. Tillman and Chen will start the first two games of the Blue Jays series this weekend in Toronto. Showalter hasn't named a starter for Sunday. Steve Pearce will take a full round of batting practice on Wednesday to test the condition of his right wrist. If he's fine, he's going to return to the lineup on Thursday night. Showalter is still deciding on his Division Series roster, which he said is one reason why he's got Ryan Flaherty, Jimmy Paredes and Kelly Johnson in tonight's lineup. Flaherty is starting at first base, Johnson is starting at second and Paredes is playing third. More to come.
