Tillman pitching well with no runs to work with just yet (update, runs now)

No one is comparing him to Jeremy Guthrie, but Chris Tillman has pitched a few games this year without much run support. Through 4 1/2 innings tonight, he trails Toronto 1-0 and the Orioles have been retired in order in four straight innings by Brandon Morrow on 43 pitches, 35 strikes. In his 11 starts on the year, the Orioles have provided Tillman with 19 runs of support while he has been in the game, with 10 of those coming in two starts. In four of his 11 starts, the Orioles did not score while Tillman was in the game. Tillman gave up a solo homer to Colby Rasmus in the second inning for the game's only run so far. He has been hitting 93 and 94 with his fastball, just like he did in the first two innings over the weekend in New York. He has allowed just two hits with five strkeouts through five frames. Of the 28 homers Tillman has allowed in his big league career, 20 have been solo shots. By the way, the Orioles bashed Morrow just two starts ago. On July 26, he gave up nine hits and seven runs to the Orioles in just 3 1/3 innings. Morrow is 6-1 with an ERA of 3.59 over his last nine starts and his only loss in that time was that start against the Orioles. Updated: The Orioles scored four times in the last of the sixth to end Brandon Morrow's no-hit and shutout bids. Adam Jones hit a three-run homer to right to give the Orioles and Tillman a 4-2 edge. It was his 20th on the year, a career high and his 17th at home where he has a .930 OPS.
