Tillman rocked early as Sox top O's, 6-3

Coming off a start against Toronto where he gave up just two runs over seven innings, Chris Tillman hoped to build on that tonight against Chicago. Four batters into the game he allowed more runs - three - than he had in that last start. The first five Chisox hitters reached against Tillman, on a single, homer and three doubles, as he got rocked while giving up four first-inning runs. Tillman gave up six runs (all earned) and eight hits over just 2 2/3 as Chicago beat the Orioles 6-3 in front of 21,040 at Camden Yards to take the series, three wins to one. The Orioles have lost seven of their last nine, 12 of 16 and are 9-18 since the All-Star break and 45-70 on the year. Chicago starter Mark Buehrle had another start of three runs or less in improving to 10-5 with an ERA of 3.06. He gave up three runs and six hits over eight innings, throwing 104 pitches, 71 for strikes. It was the 18th consecutive start where Buehrle allowed three runs or fewer and that tied a White Sox single-season record dating back to 1909 when Frank Smith went 18 in a row. Buehrle improved to 7-5 with an ERA of 2.83 ERA in his career against the Orioles over 18 appearances and that is his best ERA against any AL opponent. The Orioles scored three in the third against him on a J.J Hardy RBI single and a Nick Markakis two-run homer. It was his 11th of the season and the 100th in his career. He ended a 16-game homerless streak. But Buehrle allowed just three singles with five shutout innings from that point on. The Orioles welcome Detroit to town Friday night to begin a weekend series with Alfredo Simon (3-5, 4.08) facing Brad Penny (7-9, 4.92).
