FORT MYERS, Fla. - The nagging injuries in Orioles camp have claimed another victim.
Chris Tillman was scratched from Sunday's start against the Pittsburgh Pirates in Sarasota because of abdominal soreness, according to manager Buck Showalter, who met with reporters following tonight's 5-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox.
Miguel Gonzalez, who was supposed to follow Tillman to the mound, will make the start.
Tillman, who's allowed two runs and five hits in two appearances covering 4 1/3 innings, is being pushed back a few days.
"He's got a little bit of an abdominal thing," Showalter said. "It went away and then he was a little sore with it today, so we'll start Gonzo tomorrow. We'll give him a couple extra days right now just to be on the safe side.
"He felt it a little bit about a week ago and Richie (Bancells) treated it and it went away. Today, he told Richie he felt it a little bit in the morning. We decided to be careful with it."
Gonzalez has pitched once this spring, walking one and striking out two in two innings against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Showalter heard that Dylan Bundy wasn't happy with his outing.
"He made some good pitches," Showalter said. "Some counts got away from him. His command's going to be good. He's got a good delivery.
"I thought it was a good experience for him. The kid's 20 years old. It's a good environment for him to pitch in. Just another step in the process for him.
"He's got a high standard in his mind and I can appreciate him knowing what it needs to be to pitch well here. He probably knows he got away with a little bit."
At least one scout had Bundy topping out at 94 mph, also not up to the young right-hander's standards.
"They're all going to go through those periods in their careers," Showalter said. "He feels good. He feels great."
Showalter, like everyone else, was impressed with Kevin Gausman.
"You can tell why he's well-thought of," Showalter said. "He's also 22 years old out of college. I thought he presented himself real well tonight."
