Tillman ties Pappas (O's win 3-2)

Chris Tillman won't get a win tonight against the Yankees. One run allowed in 6 2/3 innings gets you a no-decision with the Orioles also held to one. tillman-sidebar-whitenew.jpgTillman has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 19 consecutive starts to tie Milt Pappas (1965) for the third-longest streak in franchise history. Manager Buck Showalter removed him from tonight's game with two outs in the seventh inning and Chris Young at third base. Left-hander Andrew Miller struck out pinch-hitter Carlos Beltran to end the threat. Beltran was batting for the first time since Sept. 9. Miller's last nine outs have come via the strikeout. He's quite a weapon. Tillman allowed one run and five hits in 6 2/3 innings, with one walk, six strikeouts and a home run. He threw 112 pitches, 75 for strikes. Tillman retired 10 in a row before Stephen Drew singled in the fifth. He set down 17 of the last 20 batters. Dave McNally holds the franchise record with 25 consecutive starts with three earned runs or fewer in 1968. The Orioles' rotation has registered 11 quality starts in the last 13 games. Jonathan Schoop is 0-for-3 tonight and 1-for-31 in his last eight games. He's hitless in his last 17 at-bats. Tonight's attendance: 43,947 Update: Brian McCann homered off Darren O'Day in the ninth inning to give New York a 2-1 lead. That's only the fifth home run allowed by O'Day this season. Update II: Kelly Johnson doubled with one out in the bottom of the ninth to score Steve Pearce and give the Orioles a 3-2 win over the Yankees. Nelson Cruz and Pearce opened the bottom of the ninth with doubles off David Robertson, who was pitching for the third consecutive game. Pearce's double scored pinch-runner Quintin Berry. J.J. Hardy flied to right for the first out. Johnson followed with the walk-off double. The Orioles' magic number is down to three.
