Trea Turner named to International League postseason All-Star team

Trea Turner has been named as the starting shortstop on the Triple-A International League postseason All-Star team.

The 23-year-old is currently the starting center fielder for the Nationals at the big league level.

Here is the release noting the honor from the Syracuse Chiefs:

Trea Turner smile blue.png "(Turner) ranked among the top two in the IL in runs (61), triples (8), at-bats (331), stolen bases (25), hits (100), extra-base hits (36) and doubles (22) in 83 games. The 23-year-old still holds the league's seventh-best qualifying average (.302) in the International League.

"It marks the first postseason All-Star selection and third selection overall for Turner, who was also named a Mid-Season All-Star last season with Double-A San Antonio. Since his promotion to Washington, Turner has excelled, hitting .341 in 42 games with 62 hits, nine doubles, six triples, five home runs, 34 runs and 17 stolen bases."

The IL press release noted the last Syracuse shortstop to be honored with a postseason All-Star citation was Emmanuel Burriss in 2014.

Interesting to note that former Nationals prospect Chris Marrero, now 28, made the IL All-Star team as an outfielder in the Red Sox organization.

Turner has been exactly what the Nationals needed from their leadoff man: A player that makes contact, gets on base and can steal bases. The offense has had a different look since Turner was placed in the top spot.
