Trumbo still expects to come off disabled list in Anaheim

Mark Trumbo threw today on the field and soon will be cleared to take batting practice and go on a short injury rehab assignment as he nears a return to the active roster.

The Orioles still seem confident that Trumbo will be ready to come off the disabled list when he's eligible on Wednesday in Anaheim.

"First time felt pretty much pain-free today," said manager Buck Showalter. "He'll start with some trunk and rotational stuff. Hopefully, headed toward BP and stuff soon. Try to work it out where he gets a couple games under his belt somewhere."

"Just follow the progression they advised," he said.

Asked about a rehab assignment, Trumbo said, "I can't tell you right now. I'll listen to whatever they choose. Whatever they want to do."

Trumbo will accompany the team to Anaheim in preparation for his return to the lineup.

"I don't see any reason why I wouldn't be ready by (Wednesday)," he said.

Infielder Ryan Flaherty worked out with the team today and will continue his injury rehab assignment Friday and Saturday with Double-A Bowie. The Baysox will be in Portland, Maine, which is about a half-mile from Flaherty's house.

"So that worked out good," Showalter said.

"He's getting there. He's missed a lot of time."

Hunter Harvey will make his next start Wednesday with short-season Single-A Aberdeen. He's tossed five scoreless innings with the Gulf Coast League team.

"Moving to the lights and people actually in the stands," Showalter said.

Third baseman Jomar Reyes, who's also been on a rehab assignment in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League, returns to Single-A Frederick on Friday. He underwent surgery on May to repair a broken right pinky finger.

"Hopefully, he won't be punching any more walls," Showalter said.

DL Hall, the Orioles' first-round pick this summer, will make his professional debut Friday afternoon with the GCL Orioles.
