Two Orioles prospects named to AFL showcase game

Right-hander Parker Bridwell and catcher Michael Ohlman have been chosen to the Arizona Fall League's Fall Stars Game, to be played Nov. 1 in Scottsdale. Bridwell and Ohlman will play for the West Division team. Triple-A Norfolk's Mike Griffin will be the club's co-pitching coach. The game will air on MLB Network at 8:08 p.m. Eastern time. The Orioles must decide whether to protect Bridwell, 23, in the Rule 5 draft after he went 7-10 with a 4.45 ERA in 26 starts at Single-A Frederick. Bridwell, chosen in the ninth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Hereford (Texas) High School, got off to a blazing start with the AFL's Glendale Desert Dogs, allowing one run and one hit over eight innings in his first four appearances. He was charged with three earned runs (four total) in one inning in his fifth outing to leave his ERA at 4.00. Ohlman, who won the Carolina League batting title last season with a .313 average, hit .236/.310/.318 in 113 games and 403 at-bats with Double-A Bowie. After totaling 13 home runs and 53 RBIs at Single-A Frederick in 2013, Ohlman produced only two homers and 33 RBIs with the Baysox. The Orioles assigned Ohlman, 23, to the AFL again after he hit .290 for Surprise last year and helped the Saguaros win the championship. He's batting .353/.429/.412 in his first six games with Glendale. Ohlman, an 11th-round pick in 2009 from Lakewood Ranch (Fla.) High School, already is on the 40-man roster. The Orioles eventually could move Ohlman to another position, especially with top catching prospect Chance Sisco behind him at low Single-A Delmarva. Sisco won the South Atlantic League batting title this year after producing a .340/.406/.448 slash line in 114 games.
