Orioles rookie Tyler Wilson will get the start Thursday night in the series finale against the Blue Jays.
The Orioles are listing Wilson as their starter rather than wait until Miguel Gonzalez's outing tonight. Manager Buck Showalter indicated that a final decision might not come until he knew how many relievers were needed tonight, with Gonzalez coming off the disabled list to make his first start since Aug. 30.
There are plenty of extra arms to cover Gonzalez if needed, including rookie Mike Wright, who made nine starts this season.
Showalter is going with a six-man rotation to close the season. Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen apparently will be pushed back to Friday night's series opener against the Yankees at Camden Yards.
Of course, the forecast this week calls for rain every night and adjustments might be necessary.
The Blue Jays' .276 average against left-handers is tied with the Marlins for the second-highest in the majors behind the Tigers (.283). Their .816 OPS ranks first.
Then again, their .786 OPS versus right-handers also ranks first. Pick your poison.
Ubaldo Jimenez is expected to start Saturday on an extra day of rest, followed by Chris Tillman on Sunday.
Wilson is 2-2 with a 3.60 ERA in eight games, including four starts. He held the Jays to one run in 5 2/3 relief innings on June 19 in Toronto.
