The Orioles continue to trail the Mariners, 2-1, as we head to the top of the sixth inning.
Adam Kennedy hit a two-run homer off Orioles right-hander Jake Arrieta in the second, and J.J. Hardy homered off Seattle rookie Michael Pineda in the third.
Arrieta has allowed four hits in five innings, with two walks and six strikeouts.
As usual, he has good stuff. His fastball has been clocked at 94 mph, and he struck out back-to-back hitters on a slider and curveball to end the fourth. He got a called third strike the following inning on a changeup.
The issue, again, is that Arrieta is throwing too many pitches. He seems to go to a full count on every batter.
He got ahead of Ichiro Suzuki, 0-2, with two outs in the fifth and hung a curveball, resulting in a double into right-center field. Chone Figgins grounded out to end the threat.
Arrieta has thrown 83 pitches, only 44 for strikes.
Pineda has limited the Orioles to three hits - none since Hardy's home run leading off the third. Derrek Lee and Luke Scott have struck out twice. Brian Roberts has flied to left in all three at-bats, extending his slump to 1-for-29.
Third base umpire Joe West has left the field for the second time tonight.
