Updates on Scott, Roberts, Gonzalez, Izturis and more

Luke Scott reports that he's still only 70 percent despite his two-homer, six-RBI night at Double-A Bowie. The discomfort remains in his right shoulder, so he'll take the next three to five days to determine whether he can stay on the active roster. Scott's other options are surgery or rehabbing his shoulder. It appears that he's leaning toward surgery if he needs to be shut down again. The Orioles announced Scott's activation from the disabled list. Matt Angle was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Speaking of outfielders, Felix Pie is starting tonight, but Nolan Reimold is expected to play left field the next two games of this series. Reimold didn't look like a good matchup against Angels starter Ervin Santana, who throws a lot of sliders and can be extremely tough on right-handed hitters. Brian Roberts didn't work out or participate in baseball activities today because of a migraine headache. Left-hander Michael Gonzalez hasn't dropped his appeal, so he won't serve his suspension this weekend. If he chooses to have a hearing, it most likely will take place while the Orioles are in New York July 29-31. Cesar Izturis went 0-for-2 with a strikeout while batting leadoff and starting at second base for the Gulf Coast League Orioles. He was supposed to play six innings, but a long rain delay forced him out of the game after the fifth. Izturis will report to Bowie tomorrow and play two games with the Baysox before being activated on Tuesday, assuming there are no setbacks. Zach Britton is scheduled to pitch five innings for Bowie on Monday. He could be recalled and start one game of the July 30 doubleheader against the Yankees. Manager Buck Showalter told reporters that Norfolk pitching coach Mike Griffin offered a report on Brian Matusz that was more positive than the left-hander's final line yesterday.
