Updating Dylan Bundy and a look at the minor leagues so far

Orioles 2011 first-round pick Dylan Bundy is still in Florida in rehab mode dealing with mild tightness in his right elbow. I've heard there have been no setbacks, but he has yet to throw any bullpen sessions. The club is just being cautious with a young prospect. He is now pain-free and is on a strengthening program. We are likely looking at a timetable of a few weeks or more before he could pitch in any games, since he'll have to build arm strength back up and likely pitch in a simulated game or games before the O's think about placing him in the minor leagues to start his 2013 season. At this very early stage, the Orioles' four full-season minor league affiliates are a combined 9-9 with Single-A clubs Delmarva and Frederick going 7-1 while Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk have started a combined 2-8. No surprise, but pitching is usually the key to winning: * Norfolk is 1-4 with a 6.70 ERA * Bowie is 1-4 with a 4.95 ERA * Frederick is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA * Delmarva is 4-1 with a 2.41 ERA Norfolk lost 21-4 to Charlotte last night and the 21 runs given up was the most surrendered by the Tides since Norfolk dropped a 25-2 decision at Pawtucket on June 4, 1999. The Knights batted around twice in that game. Tonight, 25-year-old right-hander Josh Stinson makes his O's organizational debut when he pitches for Norfolk against Charlotte and former Oriole Jason Berken. The O's claimed Stinson off waivers from Oakland last week and he is on the 40-man roster. Stinson is 0-2 with an ERA of 4.43 in 20 major league games with the Mets and Brewers. Zach Britton is expected to make his next scheduled start on Saturday after leaving his outing Sunday after two innings with a blister issue that cropped up late in spring training. Bowie lost leads of 5-0 and 10-6 Monday in a 12-10 loss at Richmond. The Baysox have already scored 33 runs. Xavier Avery, since going 0-for-4 on opening day, is 8-for-21 with three doubles and two RBIs. He has had games of five and three hits. Last night was already the third time the Baysox have lost a lead in the seventh inning or later. Kevin Gausman is listed as the starting pitcher on Thursday for Bowie's home opener at 7:05 p.m. against Akron at Prince George's Stadium. Frederick was off Monday after completing a season-opening, three-game sweep of Salem in dramatic fashion Sunday. Outfielder Glynn Davis homered twice and hit a two-run, walk-off shot in the last of the 10th. It was an impressive day for the 21-year-old outfielder, who hit just two homers in 761 at-bats in his first two seasons in the organization. Frederick manager Ryan Minor talked about winning Sunday and starting the season 3-0. "It's not always gonna end that way, but so far what I've seen is a little tenacity from this ballclub - not wanting to lay down," he said. "You get a little taste of winning late in ballgames, you start to get more comfortable knowing you're never out of a ballgame." Frederick starters Devin Jones, Tyler Wilson and Tim Berry have given up just four runs over 17 innings and the bullpen has pitched 11 shutout innings so far. Zach Davies is the scheduled starter tonight at Harry Grove Stadium when the Keys host Winston-Salem looking for a 4-0 start. The Orioles seem real encouraged by Davies, his savvy on the mound and ability to throw a good changeup at just 20 years old. By the way, the Keys' Davis is a Baltimore product and another local product had a good night for Delmarva Monday evening when Josh Hader allowed just one hit and one unearned run over six innings in his Shorebirds debut. Hader, the club's 19th-round pick last June out of Old Mill High, fanned six in the win. Matt Hobgood pitched two scoreless innings in that game and has four shutout innings on the season so far.
