Updating Jesse Beal, Ryan Berry and Parker Bridwell

Orioles minor league pitcher Jesse Beal, who was slated to begin the year in the Frederick Keys rotation, will miss the start of the minor league season. Beal, who went 7-6, 3.86 last summer at Single-A Delmarva, has a right shoulder impingement. There is no definite timetable yet for when he will be back on the mound, but he is expected to miss at least the first few weeks of the season. Meanwhile, Parker Bridwell, the O's ninth-round pick in 2010, remains in extended spring training, but not because he is injured. The O's coaches continue to work with him on a few things including the development of his secondary pitches. "It's not necessarily where they start the year, but where they end up," O's director of player development John Stockstill said. Ryan Berry, who was likely to start the year in Double-A Bowie's rotation, is dealing with shoulder tendinitis. He still has not begun a throwing program but soon may start throwing from 60 and 90 feet. He could be on a mound by the middle of May. Randy Henry, the O's fourth-round pick in 2009, who pitched in 23 innings last year, is still in extended spring in Sarasota, Fla. He had Tommy John surgery in high school and had a few setbacks last year but he has progressed well this spring. The O's will likely limit his innings this year and take it slow with Henry. He could soon pitch in some extended spring games. Lefty Ashur Tolliver, who pitched at Short Season Single-A Aberdeen the last two years, has a pulled hamstring and has been out the last couple of weeks. He could be a full go by mid-to-late April. Luis Lebron and Brandon Erbe continue their rehabs after surgeries. Both are quite a ways away from getting on a mound, though, which could come around mid summer. Cameron Coffey continues to progress from his high school Tommy John surgery and may get in game situations sometime in May. Some of these pitchers could stay and pitch in games in Sarasota in extended spring training after they are healthy, instead of - or before - they get sent to full season affiliates. Mitch Atkins, dealing with an oblique strain, has began throwing bullpen sessions. He could return in May and is expected to be used as a starting pitcher.
