Updating Yovani Gallardo's minor league start

SARASOTA, Fla. - Yovani Gallardo got in his work today at the minor league complex at Twin Lakes Park. It wasn't an off-day for everyone on the team.

Gallardo, facing Single-A Charlotte in the Rays organization, allowed two runs and six hits over four innings. He walked three and struck out one.

Heavy rains washed away Gallardo's scheduled start on Saturday against the Rays in Port Charlotte. Rather than piggyback him with Chris Tillman the following day, the Orioles arranged for Gallardo to pitch against Single-A competition.

Gallardo has started two Grapefruit League games, both against the Phillies. He allowed three runs and four hits in two innings on March 9 in Clearwater, with no walks or strikeouts. Gallardo surrendered five runs and four hits in 2 1/3 innings on March 14 in Sarasota, with two walks and one strikeout.

Though the schedule hasn't been confirmed, Gallardo could start again on Saturday versus the Red Sox at Ed Smith Stadium. He originally would have pitched Thursday, but the rainout forced an adjustment.

Kevin Gausman was supposed to pitch today at Twin Lakes Park and again Saturday against the Red Sox, but his status is up in the air after receiving a cortisone injection yesterday in his right shoulder. Gausman is bothered by tendinitis and shut down for at least a few more days.
