Orioles manager Buck Showalter chose Danny Valencia over Henry Urrutia as his designated hitter for tonight's game against the Royals. Urrutia had three hits last night, but Valencia is 11-for-20 with seven RBIs lifetime against Royals left-hander Bruce Chen. Taylor Teagarden is behind the plate tonight. Matt Wieters will sit despite being 9-for-21 with two doubles, a home run, two RBIs, two walks and five runs scored during a five-game hitting streak. The Orioles are playing the fifth of nine straight night games. Showalter must have chosen tonight to rest Wieters. The Orioles are 40-20 when their starters go six or more innings. According to STATS, it ties for the Orioles' fourth-best record after 100 games over the last 40 seasons behind the 1979, 1983 and 1997 teams. The 1977 team also was 57-43. The Orioles had seven players with two or more hits Monday night for the third time this season and the second time in the last three games. The only time in club history the Orioles had more games in a season with seven or more players recording multi-hit games was 1966 (four times). The Orioles, along with the Orioles Wives, Oriole Advocates, WJZ-TV and MASN personalities, Von Paris Moving and Storage and the Maryland Food Bank, will hold their 27th annual Food and Funds Drive during the three-game series against the Red Sox this weekend at Camden Yards. Non-perishable food items and monetary donations from fans will be collected at each ballpark entrance from the time gates open until the middle of the second inning during each game.
