Victor Robles leads Baseball America's Nationals top 10 prospects list

The Nationals worked hard during the Winter Meetings looking to improve their team. Three of their top prospects - right-handers Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Dane Dunning - were included in a deal with the White Sox for center fielder Adam Eaton.

Victor-Robles-swinging-white-P-Nats-sidebar.jpgSeveral teams asked about center fielder Victor Robles in trade scenarios, but general manager Mike Rizzo would not include him in those talks, and for good reason: The 19-year-old Robles is a five-tool athletic center fielder with bat discipline beyond his years.

Baseball America released its list of top 10 Nationals prospects today (subscription required) and Robles is at the top of the list:

1. CF Victor Robles
2. RHP Erick Fedde
3. RF Juan Soto
4. SS Wilmer Difo
5. CF Andrew Stevenson
6. RHP Koda Glover
7. SS Luis Garcia
8. SS Carter Kieboom
9. C Pedro Severino
10. RHP Austin Voth

The list demonstrates the depth the Nationals have built in outfielders and at shortstop, and doesn't even include the likes of center fielder Rafael Bautista and left fielder Telmito Agustin, who have to be knocking on the door for the Top 15. Bautista hit .282 for Double-A Harrisburg last season. Agustin's name has been brought up in trade talks, a source with knowledge of the discussions confirmed.

Having traded away top pitching prospects, expect Voth and Fedde to get opportunities to move up and even a shot with the big club if everything falls their way. Severino, Glover and Difo showed they can play in the big leagues during their time last season with the Nats.

It's surprising that third baseman Drew Ward didn't make the top 10. Garcia was an international signing last July. Kieboom has demonstrated that he has talent that could guide him up the chain very quickly. Stevenson lit up Arizona Fall League pitching in November.

Baseball America's Teddy Cahill prepared the Nats' top 10 and we will speak with him in depth this week about what he thinks about each of these players.
