Left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada made another push for a major league promotion today, holding Triple-A Rochester to one run over seven innings and leaving with Norfolk ahead 3-1.
Wada allowed five hits, walked one and struck out three. He threw 90 pitches, 62 for strikes.
The only run off him scored in the seventh.
Wada has limited opponents to one run and 14 hits in his last three starts covering 18 2/3 innings. He's walked three and struck out 20.
If nothing else, Wada will be added to the expanded roster in September. The Orioles don't currently have room for him in the rotation or the bullpen.
Wada still hasn't pitched for the Orioles since signing a two-year, $8.15 million contract in December 2011. He's recovered from ligament-reconstructive surgery on his left elbow, and the Orioles must decide whether to pick up his $5 million option for 2014.

Also, Cuban outfielder Dariel Alvarez is 2-for-3 with a triple, home run, RBI and two runs scored in his first game with the Gulf Coast League Orioles.
The Indians announced today that they placed former Oriole Mark Reynolds on release waivers for the purpose of giving his unconditional release. Reynolds is a free agent after clearing.
Let the speculation continue.
Note: Wilson Betemit has joined Single-A Frederick for the latest stage of his injury-rehab assignment. He's expected to play for the Keys tonight and Tuesday night.
Betemit went 6-for-16 in five games with the Gulf Coast League Orioles. He's been on the disabled list all season with a torn PCL in his right knee.
