Walk-off win: O's beat Jays 1-0 in 13 innings (quotes added)

On a night that starters Kevin Gausman and Joe Biagini put up zeros, the game with no runs finally got one. The Orioles won it 1-0 on a walk-off RBI double by Jonathan Schoop in the last of the 13th.

Manny Machado singled to start the 13th for his fourth hit. Schoop then lined one in the gap in right-center and the Orioles produced their 10th walk-off win of the year.

In the top of the 13th, left fielder Trey Mancini made a great leaping catch with two outs and a man on second to end the inning the keep the game scoreless. Jimmy Yacabonis pitched the 13th and got his first major league win.

The ninth inning featured some action, but no runs. In the top of the ninth with Zach Britton pitching, the Orioles cut down a run at the plate. Second baseman Schoop fielded a grounder and cut down Kevin Pillar trying to score. In the last of the ninth, the Orioles put the first two runners on but didn't score. Right fielder Teoscar Hernandez made a leaping catch on the warning track of Welington Castillo's drive to close out the frame. Through the ninth, the Orioles were 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

With the win, the Orioles' ninth in the last 11 games, they are 69-66 overall and 42-27 at home. They are 11-2 in extra-inning games. With Minnesota losing tonight, the Orioles moved back to within 1 1/2 games of the second AL wild card spot.

Kevin Gausman recorded his second straight scoreless start and has thrown 13 2/3 innings without allowing a run in that span. Tonight, he went six innings plus one batter and gave up five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts, throwing 115 pitches. He lowered his ERA to 4.79.

Over his last nine starts, Gausman has allowed two runs or fewer seven times with an ERA of 2.03 in that span. He got 16 swings and misses tonight, 10 on his split-finger fastball. In five starts this year against Toronto, Gausman has pitched to an ERA of 1.57.

But while he was putting up zeros, so was Toronto right-hander Biagini, who entered with a record of 3-9 and with a 5.40 ERA.

But he blanked the Orioles on five hits through seven innings. He had retired 15 in a row at that point and struck out a career-high 10. He had never fanned more than seven in any game. Biagini lowered his ERA to 5.01 in a 103-pitch outing.

This was a game where the Orioles used three center fielders. Adam Jones was ejected in the last of the first by home plate umpire Pat Hoberg. Jones struck out on three pitches, two looking and presumably said something that led to his second ejection of the year and his career. He was also tossed May 3 at Boston.

Craig Gentry went out to center for the top of the second and struck out in the third. Then Joey Rickard went into center in the fourth. We later learned that Gentry left due a right middle finger laceration.

Meanwhile, the Orioles missed out on several early scoring chances against Biagini. Through three at-bats, they left six on base and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. They had runners on first and third and no outs in the first, and first and second and no outs in third, but could not score.

In the third game of this series on Saturday night, O's lefty Wade Miley (8-10, 4.99 ERA) pitches against Toronto right-hander Marcus Stroman (11-6, 3.11 ERA).

Trey Mancini on his great catch in the 13th and this win: "It is really special. It's the reason I've been working so hard out there and practicing. I've always known there was going to come a time in a close game where you had to make a play similar to that. That is why you put in the work every day. I can't thank (Wayne) Kirby and Brady (Anderson) and everyone else enough for helping me out out there.

"It's huge (this win). especially in a game like that that goes for a while. It can be tough to stay focused when the runs aren't coming. It's frustrating leaving guys in scoring position. But you find a way to keep going and try to win, so that was big for us."

Yacabonis on his first major league win and Mancini's catch: "Pretty special. It's cool. Grew up my whole life playing the game, so to get a win on the biggest stage is pretty exciting. Everyone pitched well, so you want to follow suit.

"That (catch) was unreal. I've been playing with Trey since 2013. We got drafted together. Making that catch was an unreal play, big-time play. I think I owe him a little something after that."

Schoop on he and Machado contributing big on offense again: "It's fun. Every time you win, it's fun and especially this team, everybody likes each other. Everybody is pulling for each other and everybody wants each other to do good. Tim (Beckham) gets on base. Tim, Manny, me, all those guys from one to nine is contributing, it's all us. Everybody does the job. That's why we win."

Schoop about being a possible American League MVP candidate: "I don't think about those types of things. I just want to contribute to my team, do whatever I can do for us to win. Whatever I can do to put us in the playoffs, that's all that matters. It doesn't matter if you're MVP, but you're at home and watching the games. Playoffs are fun. I want to do my best. I want to be better than I was last year. I want to contribute to my team, and whatever happens, we're going to see."
