Walk-off win: Paredes two-run double in 11th lifts O's past Yankees

It was an unlikely walk-off win to say the least. An out away from wasting their third bases-loaded chance in four innings, pinch-hitter Jimmy Paredes produced a two-run double to right field as the Orioles beat the Yankees 2-1 in 11 innings. The O's loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter against Adam Warren. Down to their last out, Paredes batted for Jonathan Schoop and lined the game-winning hit to right. It was Paredes' first career walk-off hit and the Orioles' ninth walk-off win of the year. After the Orioles left the bases loaded in the eighth and ninth innings, New York's Chris Young hit a solo homer in the top of the 11th as the Yankees took a 1-0 lead. The win was the Orioles' 5,000th in team history, counting the postseason. The Orioles improve to 87-59 and reduce their magic number to seven. Kevin Gausman gave the Orioles a real strong outing. He pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Gausman threw 106 pitches and lowered his ERA to 3.57. He has pitched seven or more innings in each of his last three starts - a career-best. His ERA is 2.53 in those games. Orioles starting pitchers have an ERA of 1.52 over the last 10 games, allowing two earned runs or fewer eight times. New York starter Brandon McCarthy went seven innings plus one batter without allowing a run. He gave up a leadoff double to Kelly Johnson in the eighth, but Dellin Betances pitched out of a first-and-third, no-outs jam. Tonight, the Orioles will try to sweep a doubleheader against the Yankees for the first time since Sept. 24, 1984 when Bud Norris (12-8, 3.92 ERA) pitches against right-hander Bryan Mitchell, who will be making his first big league start.
