Warming up some leftovers

Like you've never done it this late on a Saturday night. I'm not certain that it will happen, but the Orioles might reveal their plans for left-hander Brian Matusz before tomorrow's game against the Nationals. Matusz tossed six scoreless innings and threw 70 pitches tonight for Double-A Bowie, which you already know if you kept checking Steve Melewski's blog. He made the trip to Prince George's Stadium while I hung out at Camden Yards. The Orioles could activate Matusz and give him a start next weekend in Oakland. They could try to push him closer to 100 pitches in another minor league start before taking him off the disabled list. They could tell reporters tomorrow that they haven't made a decision, which wouldn't shock me. Jeremy Guthrie, Jake Arrieta and Zach Britton will stay in the rotation. Chris Tillman and Brad Bergesen always seem to be on the hot seat. Tillman starts tomorrow, and yes, it's another big one for him. Bergesen apparently is being skipped in the rotation because of Monday's off day. The three starters for the Kansas City series beginning Tuesday are listed as Britton, Arrieta and Guthrie. Bergesen could return to the rotation, be moved to the bullpen as another long reliever or optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. It's not like the roster can go more than a few days without changing. Tillman's back seems to be fine, but we'll watch him closely. He's been receiving treatment. He walked past me a few days ago and I jokingly mentioned the huge sunburn on his back. I'm guessing he had just received some sort of heat treatment. Since I'm serving leftovers, here are some quotes from left fielder Nolan Reimold, whose two-run homer tied the game in the third inning. "It felt very good," he said. "It got us on the board and tied the game. The guys didn't let up and we scored a few more." Reimold crushed a fastball with the count full, reminding us that he has impressive power. "I feel good at the plate," he said. "I'm seeing the ball well and putting some good swings on it. I'm happy where I'm at at the plate." Asked if he's past the point of trying to make an impression to stay in the majors, Reimold said, "Yeah, kind of. I'm just up here to play and help out the team. I can play. I've just got to do it." Just do it. Catchy slogan. Josh Bell had three hits tonight for Norfolk, raising his average to .270. Catcher John Hester had three hits, but he also had two more passed balls, giving him four since joining the Tides. Tyler Kolodny hit a walk-off home run tonight for Single-A Frederick, after Bobby Bundy, an eighth-round pick in the 2008 draft, retired 15 Kinston batters in a row and held them to one run and three hits in eight innings. He walked none and struck out eight, and his ERA is down to 2.42. Single-A Delmarva first baseman Mike Flacco had two doubles and an RBI, raising his average to .305, but Kannapolis routed the Shorebirds, 16-6. Timothy Adelman, a 24th-round pick last year out of Georgetown University, had to wear it tonight. He was charged with nine runs and 12 hits in two innings of relief.
