Week in review: Britton trade talk, Machado possibly to short and more

In reviewing a week's worth of stories and comments here over the past several days, we had some interesting discussions. Today, we will take a look back at three of them.

Zach Britton throwing gray.pngOn Tuesday, we looked at the cases for and against trading Orioles closer Zach Britton. The lefty is projected to earn a salary of $12.2 million through arbitration this coming season. He has just one season left of team control before he hits free agency. The Orioles could deal the lefty, put some salary savings toward starting pitching and perhaps turn to one of their veterans to close games or go to closer-in-waiting Mychal Givens. The Orioles' public stance is that they intend for Britton to be on the team in 2018.

On Friday, we ranked nine free agent pitchers that have been discussed on these blogs over the last few weeks. My ranking had it this way - Alex Cobb, Lance Lynn, Tyler Chatwood, CC Sabathia, Andrew Cashner, Jhoulys Chacin, Jason Vargas, Miguel González and Jaime García.

Yesterday, we took a look at the possibility that the Orioles could move Manny Machado from third base to shortstop for the 2018 season. The move would have some potential wide-ranging ramifications.
