Werth plays seven innings in Potomac, goes 2-for-4

Right fielder Jayson Werth went 2-for-4 with a double, walk, RBI and two runs scored in the high Single-A Potomac Nationals 10-1 thumping of the Lynchburg Hillcats on Friday night. Werth played seven innings. It was the longest Werth had played in his third straight rehab assignment with the P-Nats as he tested his tender hamstring. Werth has gone 6-for-11 in four rehab games since May 15, but the last three games have been since Tuesday. Werth had a line drive single in center field in the second inning and a double for an RBI into right-center in the third frame. Manager Davey Johnson said Thursday that Werth would not play for Potomac on Sunday, and if all goes well Friday and depending on how Werth feels Saturday, he would be activated for Tuesday's series home opener against the New York Mets. With the most recent news that right-hander Stephen Strasburg has a strained oblique, and that outfielder Bryce Harper is still out with a knee injury, getting Werth back is critical for the Nationals to help get the offense back on track.
