Center fielder Ben Revere is making progress as he looks to come back from a right oblique strain that has kept him on the disabled list since April 5.
Nationals manager Dusty Baker said Revere is continuing basic baseball related activities and will slowly start implementing swings from the left side for the first time during his recovery.
"He was hitting right-handed off the tee," Baker said. "He sprinted yesterday, which was a positive sign. I think he threw some. Today he might be hitting some left-handed off the tee. That's what (hitting coach) Rick Schu told me. I'm hoping that he'll be back pretty soon."
The outfield got more good news today with Baker quickly putting veteran left fielder Jayson Werth back in the lineup. He left Wednesday's game at Miami early on with hamstring tightness.
"He's fine," Baker said. "He's in there today and hopefully he'll be in there the whole weekend. I'll keep my eye on him. I've got my eye on if I see any strange movements or anything. But it's nice out there and I'm hoping it stays nice. That will be good for the muscles."
