Wieters keeps swinging a hot bat (updated)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Matt Wieters seems to get most of the attention for his work behind the plate, but has anyone noticed what he's doing beside it? Wieters singled leading off the bottom of the second inning today and later scored the game's first run on Chris Dickerson's infield hit. Wieters is 11-for-22 with two doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs and six runs scored in 10 games. The Orioles collected four hits and scored twice in the second inning against Minnesota Twins starter Vance Worley. Chris Davis and Conor Jackson singled to load the bases withe one out before Dickerson's slow roller to the right side plated Wieters. Lew Ford grounded to shortstop, increasing the lead to 2-0. He's now 13-for-27 this spring. Davis is 9-for-24. Jackson is 12-for-34. J.J. Hardy popped up to Worley in the second after the Wieters and Davis singles, making him 1-for-22. Steve Johnson hasn't allowed a run in three innings. He's thrown 53 pitches, 30 for strikes. Johnson has surrendered one hit - Jamey Carroll's infield single with two outs in the third. He's walked one batter, struck out two and hit former Orioles farmhand Pedro Florimon. Twins leadoff hitter Aaron Hicks ran the count full before being caught looking at a 91 mph fastball. Wilkin Ramirz struck out in the second on an 82 mph slider, a pitch that Johnson has been focusing on during bullpen sessions and the intrasquad game. Steve Melewski reports from Clearwater that Steve Pearce hit his team-leading fourth home run in the second inning. Bench coach John Russell is managing the Orioles against the Philadelphia Phillies. His son, catcher Steel Russell, is on the trip. Update: Johnson stranded two runners in the fourth, getting Joe Benson to ground into a 6-4-3 double play. He allowed three hits, walked one, struck out two and hit a batter, and the Orioles continue to lead, 2-0. Jim Johnson will enter the game in the fifth. Hardy crushed a 91 mph fastball to left field in the fourth inning for his first home run of the spring and only his second hit. Orioles 3, Twins 0.
