Wieters talks about his return to the O's lineup

When last seen on the field, Matt Wieters played on July 9th at Texas. But he injured his right hamstring that night and has been on the DL since. That stint ends today as Wieters returns to the O's lineup batting seventh and catching. "It's been hard these past couple of weeks sitting and watching. It will be good to be back on the field and get to play. "I was able to get work in and be around the club, take BP and catch bullpens. I've been doing baseball activities, so the transition will be easier than if I hadn't been doing anything these past two weeks." Wieters and the club felt there was no need for him to play some games in the minors before his return to the Orioles. "I don't think so. You'll have an adjustment anytime you take two weeks off." Wieters, who is batting .245-6-29 in 77 games, was hitting .320 in seven July games before the injury. Now he'll find out if a bat that was warming up at that time, can heat up again. "We'll see. I felt pretty good going into the All-Star break. Now I'll try to pick up where I left off and go from there." Wieters resumes play with a five-game batting streak, during which he went 7 for 18. He says he's pretty much 100 percent for his return today. "I don't feel any different than I did before I got hurt. Just need to get extra loose today and the heat should help that." The downside to his return is that it sends his friend and fellow catcher, Craig Tatum, to the minor leagues. "It's real hard. Tate's been one of the better players on this team recently. He's swinging the bat well and doing a good job behind the plate. What's hard about this game is the business side and you have to look at guys with options and things like that. I think he can be back here soon." In a minor league transaction today, the Delmarva Shorebirds added first baseman Mike Flacco from Aberdeen. Flacco replaces Tyler Townsend, who was promoted to Frederick yesterday. In 30 games with the Ironbirds, he was hitting .250 with 16 RBIs. The 23-year old is batting .221 in the month of July. Flacco, the younger brother of Ravens QB Joe Flacco, was selected in the 31st round of the 2009 First Year Player Draft. In 2009, he played in five games for the Shorebirds after earning a late season promotion from Bluefield. He went 3-for-19 (.158) with an RBI.
