Yastrzemski moves up again, plus other notes

The Orioles have promoted outfielder Mike Yastrzemski to Double-A Bowie, his third affiliate since the start of the 2014 season.

Yastrzemski, chosen in the 14th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Vanderbilt University, was batting .312/.364/.462 with seven doubles, a triple, one home run and 19 RBIs in 23 games at advanced Single-A Frederick. He also was 5-of-5 in stolen base attempts.

Yastrzemski began the season at low Single-A Delmarva and batted .306/.365/.554 with 14 doubles, 10 triples, 10 home runs and 44 RBIs in 63 games. He also was 12-of-16 in stolen bases.

Combine the two affiliates, and the grandson of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski is batting .308/.365/.530 with 21 doubles, 12 triples, 11 home runs, 63 RBIs and 17 steals in 21 attempts over 86 games.

According to the Orioles, Yastrzemski is the only player in the majors or minors this season who's accumulated double digits in doubles, triples, home runs, steals and outfield assists.

Despite swinging from the left side of the plate, Yastrzemski batted .450 (9-for-20) against southpaws in the Carolina League.

On July 5, Yastrzemski went 5-for-6 against Lynchburg while hitting for the cycle. He doubled twice and drove in five runs.

The Baysox are losing outfielder Dariel Alvarez and first baseman Christian Walker to Triple-A Norfolk following tonight's Eastern League All-Star Game.

Yastrzemski, 23, becomes the second member of the Keys this season to advance to Double-A for the first time, joining former Frederick reliever Mychal Givens, who moved up on June 21.

Also, oddsmaker Bovada has improved the odds of the Orioles winning the World Series from 25/1 on June 2 to 14/1.

The Orioles are 7/1 to win the pennant and 6/5 favorites to win the American League East.

Nelson Cruz is 12/1 to be named AL Most Valuable Player and 3/2 to hit the most home runs in the majors during the regular season.

Former Oriole Luke Scott was fired by SK Wyverns after getting into an argument with his manager, Lee Man-soo, and reportedly calling him a "coward" and a "liar," according to the Korea Times.

Scott has been injured for most of the season and was recently placed on the reserve list. He was batting .267 with six homers in 33 games.

And finally, is third baseman Manny Machado the first Oriole to be mentioned in a United Nations Secretary-General's speech?

Ban Ki-moon worked in Machado's name today during a first-ever visit to the Dominican Republic, noting how the island nation is a "top producer of Major League Baseball talent - from Juan Marichal and Pedro Martínez to David Ortiz and Robinson Cano, to young players of Dominican heritage like Platinum Glove winner Manny Machado."
