Ayala taken to hospital, Reimold could go on DL

Orioles reliever Luis Ayala began to feel ill during today's game and is currently being checked out at a local hospital. He won't accompany the Orioles to Boston tonight, but he could meet up with them later. Manager Buck Showalter said Ayala left the bullpen around the sixth or seventh inning. Showalter said the club has a pretty good read on the problem, but he didn't go into specifics. Showalter and executive vice president Dan Duquette are discussing the various options if outfielder Nolan Reimold needs to go on the disabled list with tightness in his right hamstring. The Orioles are down to a three-man bench and can't afford to wait too long on Reimold, who exited today's game after the bottom of the sixth inning. The Orioles could recall an outfielder from the minors or purchase a player's contract and move Wilson Betemit to the 60-day disabled list to create room on the 40-man roster. Both of those scenarios are being discussed. The Orioles won't rush into a decision because they don't want to put Reimold on the DL if he's going to be fine in a day or two. They don't have a game scheduled on Tuesday. Miguel Gonzalez will make his next start in New York. Showalter is just bringing him along slowly in anticipation of the right-hander pitching every five days later in the season. Showalter believes Gonzalez can pitch 200 innings this season.
