Bad start to Wei-Yin Chen T-shirt Night (Machado 2-for-4)

Anyone know how to say "do over" in Mandarin Chinese? Wei-Yin Chen threw 26 pitches, served up two home runs, gave up four hits and took a shot off his left knee in the first inning. That's no way to celebrate your own T-shirt night. Or is this Manny Machado Night? I've sort of lost track. Alex Gordon hit his eighth career leadoff home run, and his third this season. Back-to-back singles by Alcides Escobar and Lorenzo Cain - the latter on a ball that scooted past a diving Machado at third base - were followed by Billy Butler's 23rd home run of the season. Royals 4, Orioles 0. Chen finally retired his first batter, but it came with a price. Salvador Perez's comebacker slammed off Chen's left knee and rolled to second baseman Robert Andino. Chen bent at the waist as assistant athletic trainer Brian Ebel ran onto the field. Play resumed after a few warmup tosses and a thumbs-up from Chen. Chen's knee felt good enough for him to cover first base on Mike Moustakas' grounder to Mark Reynolds. Jeff Francoeur flied to right on Chen's 26 pitch, and the Taiwanese right-hander walked slowly to the dugout. Some might say "gingerly." The Orioles had allowed five runs in the first inning over their previous seven games. The Royals scored four tonight. Chen hadn't allowed an earned run in his last two starts. He's 3-1 with a 1.95 ERA in five starts since the All-Star break. Update: Machado received a loud ovation as he stepped to the plate with two on and two outs in the bottom of the second inning. He bounced to short on a 1-1 pitch. Machado recorded his first major league putout in the top of the third, fielding Perez's ground ball cleanly and making the throw to first base. Another ovation followed. The crowd grew silent when Moustakas and Francoeur followed with back-to-back RBI doubles. Butler started the rally with a ground-rule double to left-center field. Five of the seven hits off Chen have gone for extra bases. The six runs off Chen ties his career high. It also happened on May 20 against the Nationals and June 28 against the Indians. Update II: Machado led off the bottom of the fifth inning by falling behind, 0-2, and lining a triple into right-center field. The Orioles made sure he got the ball as a souvenir. Machado tagged up and scored on Nick Markakis' liner to left field, his first major league run also in the books. You may recall that Matt Wieters' first major league hit also was a triple. This one is a little more believable. The Orioles have a long way to go to catch up to the Royals, who scored seven runs off Chen in 4 2/3 innings. Chen allowed nine hits, walked one, struck out five and gave up two home runs. He threw 86 pitches, 57 for strikes. Billy Butler is a single short of the cycle. Update III: Wieters hit his 16th home run in the sixth inning, making him 7-for-14 with three doubles, three home runs and eight RBIs in the last three games. Machado reached on an infield hit with one out in the seventh, beating out a slow roller past the right side of the mound. The kid is 2-for-3 with a run scored in his major league debut. Update IV: Machado popped up to second to end the game, leaving him 2-for-4. The Orioles' five-game winning streak is history.
