Brad Bergesen has held the Yankees to one run and three hits over six innings, and he continues to cling to a 2-1 lead. He's thrown 91 pitches, two of them resulting in fly balls to the warning track in the sixth.
You can exhale now. I wouldn't want your face turning blue.
Bergesen was 0-2 with a 10.38 ERA in two career starts against the Yankees, both in the Bronx, having allowed 10 earned runs in 8 2/3 innings. But he allowed three runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts this season and worked
at least seven innings in five of those seven. He's got a lot of movement on his ball - a few pitches have tailed so far to the right, they almost hit the foul pole - and he's got the Yankees' offense in a holding pattern.
Nine more outs to go - always the toughest at Yankee Stadium.
We can worry later about who's closing. I'd love to reach that point in the discussion.
