Right-hander James Bourque is looking good so far at high Single-A Potomac. The 24-year-old former Michigan Wolverine is 2-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 11 games with two saves. He was a 14th rounder in 2014.
"James Bourque is having an outstanding start in Potomac, somebody that is now two years removed from Tommy John," said Nationals director of player development Mark Scialabba. "Plus fastball, curveball combination and some funk and deception in his delivery. He is someone to follow this...
Right-hander Austin Voth only came up for a 24-hour period a couple of weeks ago. He did not get into that game on April 29, but expect to see Voth again in a Nationals uniform this season.
The starter has built himself to a point in his young career to be an extremely valuable asset to the Nats.
Nats director of player development Mark Scialabba said Voth's dedication to getting stronger in the offseason has positively affected his pitching repertoire and his ability to strive towards the end...
Well, that didn't take too long.
Outfielder Juan Soto has been promoted to Double-A Harrisburg, according to a top Nationals source, just 17 days after moving up to high Single-A Potomac.
Soto was with Potomac from April 23 to May 9. He began the season at low Single-A Hagerstown. Just 40 days into the season, he has moved to Harrisburg.
In those 40 days, he is at the top of the home run list in both the South Atlantic League and the Carolina League. He got some playing time in center field,...
Juan Soto continued to pummel minor league pitching last week with a .522 average and five homers, earning the 19-year-old the Carolina League Player of the Week honors.
Nationals director of player development Mark Scialabba said having a healthy Soto means everyone gets to see what the system's hottest prospect is capable of producing.
Soto has recorded at least a base hit in 12 of the 14 games he has played for the P-Nats. In 30 minor league games this season, between low Single-A...
Of all the records Max Scherzer has accrued in his career of pitching, consider he set another mark in Sunday's 6 1/3 innings against the Phillies:

-- MLB Stat of the Day (@MLBStatoftheDay) May 6, 2018
The list of amazing feats from this Scherzer gem doesn't end there:
1. 15 strikeouts in game were a season-high. 2. He struck out the side three innings in a...
The Nationals put together their first walk-off win of the year thanks to a ninth-inning rally over the Phillies. The two-run last at-bat surge demonstrated the lineup's ability to be patient with the game on the line.
Facing Phillies closer Héctor Neris for the second day in a row, the Nats tallied two runs on two hits and two walks to rally from a 4-3 deficit to post the 5-4 win.
Wilmer Difo's single over the infield plated Rafael Bautista with the winning run. Center field was vacant...
Right-hander Max Scherzer is almost unstoppable right now. Scherzer struck out seven of the first 11 batters he faced in the first three innings Sunday against the Phillies. He gave up a double to Odúbel Herrera in the first and a single to Maikel Franco in the second, but each time he struck out the final batter of the inning to end the threat.
In the third he struck out the side. He has seven strikeouts in three innings.
Right-hander Jake Arrieta allowed a solo homer to Matt Adams to lead...
Nationals manager Davey Martinez held veteran first baseman Ryan Zimmerman out of the lineup again with a bruised side.
"I talked to him today he said he felt better," Martinez said. "More of a bruise kind of a deal. He's going to keep me updated for today if he's available. He's shooting for tomorrow, but if there's an emergency he might be able to play."
Third baseman Anthony Rendon made it through his first major league game since April 13 with no issues from the fractured left big...
The series wraps up with a dandy of a pitching matchup as a pair of heavyweights square off.
This is an important game for the Nationals, who are looking to go above .500 again and win an important divisional series against a team with a better record.
Right-hander Max Scherzer (6-1, 1.79 ERA) takes on the Phillies prized free agent acquisition right-hander Jake Arrieta (3-1, 3.49). The dup have taken home the last three National League Cy Young awards.
Now if the weather can hold up. Rain is...
Nationals starting pitcher Tanner Roark kept his team in the game and almost got through seven innings in a 3-1 loss Saturday to the Phillies.
Roark went 6 1/3 innings scattering six hits and allowing three runs while striking out nine and walking three. His nine strikeouts matched his season-high against the New York Mets on April 8.
The Phillies started quickly. César Hernández singled and Rhys Hoskins homered for a 2-0 lead.
"First inning. I'm not gonna go walk a guy," Roark said of...
Trea Turner got caught off of first base in the ninth inning attempting to get to second base on a possible hit and run.
It was a play Turner would certainly love to have back, but the biggest takeaway from the Nationals' 3-1 loss to the Phillies Saturday was the pitching of Vince Velasquez.
Velasquez allowed only one hit, a solo homer by Wilmer Difo, in quieting the Nationals for five innings. The right-hander hit a batter, walked four and struck out four batters to improve to 2-4.

The Phillies jumped out quickly in Saturday's game. César Hernández singled and Rhys Hoskins took Nationals starter Tanner Roark to a full count before crushing a pitch over the center field wall. The two-run shot gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead.
This was the opposite of the Nats' 3-0 and then 7-0 leads to start the first two innings on Friday night.
In the third, Roark walked two but also struck out three. Odúbel Herrera walked to extend his on-base streak to 34 games.

Manager Davey Martinez discussed the Nationals activating third baseman Anthony Rendon from the 10-day disabled list. Adrian Sanchez was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. Rendon played two games for high Single-A Potomac in the last two nights.
"He looked good playing the last couple of days," Martinez said. "His at-bats were really good. He's moving a lot better than what I anticipated. I just expect him to go out there and do his thing like normal. He's excited about being back and he says...
The Nationals welcome back third baseman Anthony Rendon to their lineup today. Rendon did well in two rehab appearances for high Single-A Potomac over the past two days, collecting five hits in eight at-bats. He has been out with a hairline fracture in his left big toe.
The team has won a season-high six games in a row, so having Rendon back could help the offense get into overdrive.
Since manager Davey Martinez switched up the top of the lineup, Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Matt Adams have...
Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon went 3-for-4 with a double on Friday night in Single-A Potomac's 4-3 loss to the Salem Red Sox in Woodbridge, Va. He made a solid defensive play at third base early in the game and spoke to reporters after the game about his progress.
"I feel all right. They said I'm going to feel it for another five or six weeks after the injury, so obviously it's still going to be there, but we play with aches and pains throughout the year," Rendon told reporters at...

The Nationals brought the power again in the series finale against the Pirates, winning 3-1 thanks to home runs from Trea Turner and Ryan Zimmerman.
For Turner, it was only his second homer of the season. It was a big hit for the shortstop, who has had his first 30 games of the season highlighted by his walk rate and stolen bases. Turner's two-run shot got the Nats on the board against Pirates starter Trevor Williams, 2-0 in the sixth.t
Turner went 1-for-4 on the afternoon, but his batting...
Nationals manager Davey Martinez has made it mandatory to watch right-hander Jeremy Hellickson as he makes his way through his starts, especially the third time through the order.
In his last start, Hellickson had allowed only one run through five innings on a David Peralta solo homer against the Diamondbacks April 28. Peralta came up for the third time in the sixth and hit another homer. After Hellickson retired Jarrod Dyson, he was pulled. He had registered 56 pitches.
Martinez said...
The Nationals have a chance today for their first four-game sweep of the season as they battle the Pittsburgh Pirates in the series finale. With a win, the Nats get back to the .500 mark for the first time since April 20.
Manager Davey Martinez believes they have found something with their new lineup. Bryce Harper will stay in the leadoff spot, with Matt Adams in the No. 3 hole. Ryan Zimmerman and Matt Wieters return to the lineup after a day off.
Wilmer Difo has done a very nice job in the No....
One, two, three.
The Nationals' top of the order, in it's present form, is clicking.
Bryce Harper leading off has been a find.
Trea Turner can still do Trea Turner things from the two-hole.
Matt Adams has been scorching the ball and the Nats have taken full advantage of his hot bat in the No. 3 spot.
All this adds up to another runaway win against the Bucs as the Nats win, 9-3.
The trio at the top of the order has combined for 11 hits, five homers, 10 runs and 14 RBIs in these last two...
