From Frederick to Bowie: Trey Mancini's bat says hot in Eastern League
First baseman Trey Mancini got off to a slow start at Single-A Frederick this year. When April came to a close, he was batting just .244. But Mancini's bat took off in May and he has stayed hot this month, as well. He was playing so well that the Orioles moved him up to Double-A Bowie on June 5 and he has continued to hit well in his first few weeks in the Eastern League. After posting an OPS of .868 in 52 games with Frederick, Mancini has an OPS of 1.112 in his first 15 games for Bowie. He...

But the Orioles stormed back to score the game's final six runs and post an important and impressive 13-9 win. With the game tied 9-9 in the ninth, the O's faced lefty Brett Cecil. Jason Esposito retires, plus draft notes and more
A few notes this morning on O's minor leaguers, some draft pick news and a few notes on the Orioles: * The Orioles drafted third baseman Jason Esposito in the second round in 2011 out of Vanderbilt. He won a minor league Gold Glove for his defensive play at Single-A Frederick last year. But earlier this week, Esposito told club officials he is retiring from baseball. After playing the last two seasons with Frederick, Esposito began this year with Double-A Bowie. After 47 games, he was batting...

Wei-Yin Chen: "I don't worry about anything between me and the Orioles' officials"
FREDERICK, Md. - Orioles left-hander Wei-Yin Chen got his outing in tonight at Single-A Frederick and pitched three scoreless innings against the Wilmington Blue Rocks before a torrential storm forced the game to be suspended after four innings. Chen gave up just one hit - a first-inning, two-out double - and fanned two without a walk. He threw 35 pitches, 25 for strikes. He is expected to return to the Orioles and start next Friday. But it was the postgame interview here tonight that was as...

O'Day escapes eighth as Orioles beat Blue Jays behind Machado's three-hit day
This time not only did Darren O'Day's escape act keep a team off the board but it may have served to provide some momentum for the Orioles offense. After O'Day stranded the bases loaded in the eighth this afternoon, the O's scored three in the ninth to break a 2-2 tie and beat Toronto 5-3. Manny Machado added three hits and two RBIs. With the game tied 2-2 in the eighth, O'Day was able to get out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam by striking out Russell Martin, Dioner Navarro and Kevin Pillar....

O's game blog: Gausman starts against Toronto, plus Mychal Givens notes
The Orioles are still looking for their first win of the year at Rogers Centre in Toronto. They are 0-4 there and 3-7 overall in 10 games against the Blue Jays. Mike Wright's outing of 1 1/3 innings last night was the shortest by an O's starter this year. Five times in 2015 O's starters have pitched three or fewer innings. Once it was due to a rain delay, but the other four times were all against Toronto: * 3 innings by Bud Norris, allowing eight runs April 10 * 2 2/3 by Chris Tillman...

Updates on Dylan Bundy, Jonathan Schoop and Matt Hobgood in Bowie
BOWIE, Md. - Right-hander Dylan Bundy, the Orioles' top pitching prospect, said after tonight's Double-A Bowie game that he had his scheduled follow-up MRI this morning. The initial reading showed infllammation only in his right shoulder, as the first one showed on May 27. That appears to be good news for Bundy, meaning there is no structural damage in the shoulder. Already coming back from Tommy John surgery in June 2013, Bundy was throwing well for the Baysox when he felt some discomfort in...

O's game blog: Toronto has averaged 6.7 runs per game this year against the O's
Tonight, the Orioles' pitching staff gets another shot at facing the majors' highest-scoring team when they open a three-game series at Toronto. While the Blue Jays rank 13th in team pitching in the American League, their offense been potent, to say the least. The Orioles know all about that. Toronto has averaged 6.7 runs per game this year in going 6-3 against the Orioles. O's pitchers have allowed 10 runs or more four times this year, and Toronto has been the opponent all four times. But...

The land of opportunity: Duquette and Showalter work the roster as well as anyone
I would guess a lot of fans that heard or saw these transactions and news from the Orioles' offseason either had little reaction or one that may have even been somewhat negative: * 12-12-14: Orioles sign pitcher Chaz Roe to a minor league contract.* 1-26-15: Orioles sign outfielder Chris Parmelee to a minor league contract. How about this one from last summer: * 7-24-14: Orioles purchase contract of infielder Jimmy Paredes from Kansas City. The Orioles initially acquired Paredes on waivers on...

Ryan Howard's two-run homer lifts Philadelphia past Orioles
The Orioles came up one run short in their attempt to take four in a row from the Philadelphia Phillies. Ryan Howard's two-run homer off Bud Norris in the last of the sixth gave the Phillies their first lead of the four games and they made it stand up for a 2-1 win. The O's had taken the first three games by a combined 29-7 score. Philadelphia (23-45) snapped a nine-game losing streak. Today's game started well for the Orioles when Manny Machado hit a leadoff homer on the fifth pitch from...

O's game blog: Notes on Parmelee, the 'pen and more before series finale
So Chris Parmelee's first two games with the Orioles have gone pretty well. He is 5-for-9 with five runs, three homers and three RBIs. That works out to a slugging percentage of 1.556 and an OPS of 2.156. Parmelee has homered in consecutive games for the fourth time in his career and and for the first time since June 1-3, 2013. Parmelee became the seventh player to homer in consecutive games to begin his career with the Orioles and first since Nelson Cruz, March 31-April 2, 2014. Last night on...

O's hit two more homers, add one big inning to beat Phillies
The Orioles hit two more homers tonight. They threw in a big inning and got a mostly solid outing from Ubaldo Jimenez, as well. That added up to a 6-4 win over the Phillies. Travis Snider on mindset vs. Philly and a take on Scott Boras' comments on Wei-Yin Chen
The Orioles are playing very good baseball right now. The Philadephia Phillies are not. The Orioles crushed the Phillies last night, leading 12-0 in the third on their way to a 19-3 win. The night saw the Orioles set a team record by hitting eight home runs, and their 19 runs were the most by an Orioles team since they scored 23 on Sept. 28, 2000 against Toronto. The Phillies have lost eight in a row. Over their last 12 games, they are 1-11. Over their last 12 road games, they are 0-12. It's...
