MIAMI - Not to jinx anything, but it would be irresponsible not to mention that Stephen Strasburg enters tonight's start riding a 12-game winning streak against the Marlins, dating all the way back to Sept. 20, 2015. Yes, that's three years and one day. Pretty amazing.
Of course anything can happen on any given day, so Strasburg and the Nationals aren't assured of anything tonight. But it's obviously an advantageous matchup for Strasburg, who is 4-0 with a 1.19 ERA, 43 strikeouts and four walks this season alone vs. Miami. They'll need some innings from the right-hander tonight, because you would think Daniel Hudson is unavailable after his six-out save Friday night. You'd also think that means Sean Doolittle is closing if the opportunity presents itself.
The Marlins send Jordan Yamamoto to the mound, and because the right-hander is returning from injury his pitch count will be restricted. This is the first time the Nationals have ever seen the rookie hurler. As we've seen before, it often takes them a couple innings to figure guys like this out. Though as we saw Friday night with Robert Dugger, they turned things up a notch the second time the lineup faced him.
