Gausman back in the rotation

While still admiring how Adam Jones took his base like a professional last night after being hit in the eighth inning ...

The Orioles are making at least one roster move today while activating Kevin Gausman from the disabled list.

Mike Wright could be optioned to Triple-A Norfolk after starting last night. I'll apologize if I'm wrong, since I've already made that prediction once before and the Orioles chose Wei-Yin Chen.

Tyler Wilson won't be available for at least a few days after throwing 78 pitches last night in relief of Wright. He held the Blue Jays to one run in 5 2/3 innings. No wonder the Orioles view him as a rotation candidate in 2016.

Gausman hasn't started since Sept. 25, 2014. His last relief appearance with the Orioles came on May 6 against the Mets, when he struck out two batters in one inning. He went on the disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis and made three starts totaling 8 1/3 innings on an injury rehabilitation assignment.

Gausman hasn't thrown more than 2 1/3 innings with the Orioles this season, and it happened in his first outing on April 7 against the Rays. He needs to be economical with his pitches today to get deep into the game.

Right-handers are hitting .143 against Gausman this season, but left-handers are batting .389.

Gausman is 1-1 with a 3.78 ERA in seven appearances (two starts) against the Blue Jays and 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA in four appearances (one start) at Rogers Centre. The current players on Toronto's roster are 6-for-36 against him.

Jose Reyes is 3-for-7 against Gausman. Josh Donaldson is 2-for-7 with a double. Edwin Encarnacion is 0-for-8. Jose Bautista is 0-for-5 with two walks.

Veteran left-hander Mark Buehrle is 3-0 with a 3.50 ERA in three starts against the Orioles this season, with seven runs allowed in 18 innings. In his career, he's 11-10 with a 3.56 ERA in 27 games (25 starts) against the Orioles.

The current Orioles are batting .323 against Buehrle. Adam Jones, moved from center field to the designated hitter role before last night's game, is 16-for-39 (.410) with four doubles and two home runs. Delmon Young is 22-for-59 (.373) with three doubles and four home runs, Manny Machado is 6-for-19 with three doubles, Caleb Joseph is 4-for-10 with a double and home run, Nolan Reimold is 5-for-12 with two doubles and a home run, Travis Snider is 5-for-11, and Chris Davis is 8-for-27 with two home runs.

Steve Pearce is 2-for-13 with two doubles and J.J. Hardy is 5-for-32 with two doubles and a home run.

Hardy's 11-game hitting streak ended last night.
