Giolito and Johansen shine in weekend series for Hagerstown

The low Single-A Hagerstown Suns continue to roll, and are now 9-2 to start the season after a 6-1 disptach of Lakewood on Sunday, completing a four-game sweep of the BlueClaws. Center fielder Isaac Ballou and shortstop Wilmer Difo had back-to-back doubles to highlight a four-run third inning.

Right-hander Jake Johansen (1-0) pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on two hits with four walks to garner the victory. He struck out six batters. Right-hander Ryan Ullman, who was just called up, pitched the final four innings in his debut to earn the save.

Righty Lucas Giolito had a nice bounceback Thursday night, after only three innings in his first start. Going five innings, Giolito (1-0) allowed one hit, no runs and one walk. He struck out six batters for his first win in beating Lakewood. Wander Suero pitched four innings for the save.

Johansen was the picked in the second round of the 2013 First-Round Player Draft by the Nationals, while Giolito was the team's first-round selection in the 2012 draft.

The Suns outscored Lakewood 23-4 in the series and begin a series in Salisbury, Md., against Delmarva today.

* With all the callups this weekend because of injuries to the big club, there has been movement in the organization for players to different teams.

Outfielder Erik Komatsu was assigned to Triple-A Syracuse from short-season Single-A Auburn.

Catcher Mitch Canham has been assigned to Double-A Harrisburg.

High Single-A Potomac hsa placed second baseman Tony Renda on the disabled list. and infielder Khayyan Norfork has been called up from Hagerstown.

Left-hander Hector Silvestre has been placed on the DL by Hagerstown. Ullmann has been received from extended spring training. Infielder Cody Dent has arrived in Hagerstown from extended spring training.
