Instrasquad game ends in scoreless tie

SARASOTA, Fla. - The Orioles played five scoreless innings today in their intrasquad game, the only hit an infield single by Ryan Flaherty.

Flaherty-run-white-sidebar.jpgFlaherty sent a sharp ground ball up the middle that slammed off reliever Chaz Roe's foot. He also walked in two plate appearances.

Henry Urrutia walked twice for the home team. Rule 5 pick Joey Rickard struck out twice, reached on an error by shortstop Ozzie Martinez and stole second base.

Chance Sisco was hit on the shoulder by an Andy Oliver pitch, but he stayed in the game.

The relaxed rules enabled Andrew Triggs to stay on the mound for the last five outs of the game. He struck out three batters while throwing 13 of his 15 pitches for strikes.

Zach Britton stayed on the mound for four outs, getting three ground balls and striking out Xavier Avery. He threw 15 pitches, 11 for strikes.

Brian Matusz threw nine of 15 pitches for strikes. He issued a four-pitch walk to Trey Mancini, who was picked off first base by catcher Francisco Pena. Matusz struck out Garabez Rosa, who made the trip from Twin Lakes Park.

Matusz should have gotten a second strikeout, but the plate umpire squeezed him. Jomar Reyes stayed in the box and lined to short. Reyes also came over from minor league camp, along with Ryan Mountcastle.

Ubaldo Jimenez faced only two batters, getting strikeout and a walk. He threw 13 pitches, six for strikes.

Odrisamer Despaigne threw 12 of 19 pitches for strikes. He struck out two batters and issued a walk.

Mychal Givens, the former shortstop, grabbed Mancini's screaming liner up the middle. He threw seven of 11 pitches for strikes and fanned Rosa.

Dale Thayer struck out Nolan Reimold and Jonah Heim and walked Urrutia.

It's almost time for manager Buck Showalter's media session. More to come.
