Jones on O's 60th anniversary celebration and other notes

The proud Orioles past met the players presently producing an exciting 2014 season. That exciting season's latest chapter played out last night as the Orioles hit three more homers in an 11-3 rout of the Yankees. Toronto lost 11-1 at Seattle so now the O's once again have a six-game lead on Toronto and New York is seven games back. Is it possible that the Orioles are going to run away with the American League East crown? More notes on the Orioles: * Jonathan Schoop became the seventh Oriole to hit 10 or more homers when he connected in the eighth. That total leads the AL, while Colorado leads the majors with eight players with 10 or more. * Over the last four games, the Orioles have scored 12, 10, three and 11 runs. They are batting .367 in those games with 36 runs on 10 doubles and 12 homers. * The Orioles have homered in nine of their last 10 games, hitting 21 in that stretch. They have produced a major league best 44 multi-homer games and have a 34-10 record when they hit two or more home runs. * Schoop is batting .385 (10-for-26) with three homers and 10 RBIs in 2014 against the Yankees. He leads all O's players in average, homers and RBIs versus New York as well as leading the team in slugging percentage (.808) and OPS (1.215) against the Yankees. * The Orioles have now won eight straight series openers and are 25-15 on the year, including a mark of 13-7 at home. * Caleb Joseph is batting .385 (10-for-26) during a seven-game hitting streak with two doubles, five homers and nine RBIs. Nelson Cruz is 5-for-10 his last three games with two homers and six RBIs. In his past four contests, Jones is 8-for-17 with a homer and three RBIs.
