Lannan's day is done, Lombardozzi in left (Nats lose 3-2)

VIERA, Fla. - The Nationals have a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth, with Jason Michaels' RBI groundout bringing in Ryan Zimmerman for the only run of the game. Ian Desmond has a walk today (his second in as many days) and an error (marking his fourth defensive miscue of the spring). John Lannan's day is done after four innings of work. The lefty didn't allow a run, largely thanks to a stiff wind blowing in, and gave up three hits and a walk. He struck out three and threw 79 pitches, 50 for strikes. Not a bad outing for Lannan, but not a stellar one, either. He really caught a break when Dan Uggla's long fly ball to left hit a wall of wind and was brought in by Michaels on the warning track. Without the assist from the elements, that was likely a three-run shot. Lannan also gave up three straight line drives to right which faded foul off the bat of Braves catcher Brian McCann. Meanwhile, I mentioned this morning that manager Davey Johnson might give Steve Lombardozzi some time in the outfield. That time is today. Lombardozzi entered the game in left field to start the fifth. He was immediately tested when center fielder Michael Bourn lifted a high fly ball to left which got caught up in a swirling wind, but Lombardozzi came in to make the catch. This is the 23-year-old's first professional appearance in the outfield. Update: The Nats fell to the Braves 3-2 in 10 innings. Ryan Perry allowed the game-tying run with two runs and two strikes in the ninth, and then allowed two runs in the 10th. Back from the clubhouse in a bit.
