Manny Machado talks about today's appeal hearing

Manny Machado had his appeal hearing today and it was on his home field, so to speak.

Machado, his agent and Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette met for about an hour with Joe Garagiola Jr., Major League Baseball's senior vice president in charge of standards and on-field operations, at the Camden Yards Warehouse.

Machado said he feels his case is strong in his attempt to get a five-game suspension reduced. He does not know when he will hear the results of today's hearing.

Why does he believe his suspension will be reduced?

"Overall. Overall case," he said. "I didn't mean to, I didn't throw the bat at anybody. You know, that's it. All the other cases that have gotten suspended has been when they go ahead and they intentionally throw the bat at the person. You know, we'll just wait. I don't want to jinx anything, just want to try to get the least games as possible."

Machado said it's possible he could get the results of today's hearing before the Orioles' day-night doubleheader on Friday.

"It could be. I don't know how that works," he said. "On our side, we did what we had to do and now it's just wait. Hopefully it doesn't hurt the team that I'm down some games and we're down a roster spot.

"Just sat down and we talked. We just went down to business to try and get the games down. We're hoping we made a good case. At this point just wait and see where it takes us."

Machado said it was not nerve-wracking as he stated his case.

"No, fairly easy," he said. "You just bring back bad memories that I kind of left in the past. Other than that, went well. Just answered questions and asked questions. That's all it is, nice and simple.

"I think it was fair. We both came to a table and said what we had to say and got it done. I think it went well. We made our case and now we'll see."
