Mike Wright on DL, Jorge Rondon recalled

The Orioles have placed pitcher Mike Wright on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf muscle and recalled right-handed reliever Jorge Rondon from Triple-A Norfolk.

Wright replaced starter Wei-Yin Chen in the fourth inning last night and exited in the fifth. The club hoped that Wright was experiencing cramps in his calf, but an MRI this morning revealed the strain.

Rondon, 26, went 2-1 with a 2.01 ERA in 24 games over 40 1/3 innings with Norfolk this season, including an eight-game scoreless streak from July 2-29 that spanned 13 2/3 innings.

In 29 combined games with the Tides and Triple-A Albuquerque this season, Rondon compiled a 2-1 record and 1.91 ERA in 47 innings.

The Orioles claimed Rondon from the Rockies on May 10. He could become the 1,001st player to appear in a game for the team following new outfielder Gerardo Parra, who's expected in tonight's lineup.

Rondon, who will wear No. 57, appeared in one game with the Cardinals last season and two with the Rockies this year. He allowed 10 earned runs (11 total) and eight hits, and walked three batters, in one inning with Colorado.
