Strasburg making second rehab start Monday (updates on Turner, Robles, Voth, Bleier and more)

Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs shortstop Trea Turner has seven hits in his last five games. He is hitting .256 over his last 10 games but .316 overall for the season.

Turner had a 3-for-5 day on July 30 and went 2-for-5 on July 27.

Turner-Syracuse-Hitting.jpgTo get a better measure of how good of a hitter Turner is capable of being is to view how he did in the month of July with Syracuse. In 27 games, Turner hit .340 (34-for-100) with three doubles, three triples, two homers, 11 RBI, eight walks, seven stolen bases and 17 runs scored.

He is also batting .439 (18-for-41) versus left-handed pitching and .388 at home.

I think San Diego believes they made a mistake in letting Turner go in a trade and that is one reason why they didn't move any of their other major chips at the trade deadline for fear of getting burnt in a swap again. That is what made general manager Mike Rizzo's recent inquiries about closer Craig Kimbrel a little more difficult than the deal through Tampa Bay for Turner and Joe Ross.

Dominican outfielder Victor Robles, 18, hit .366 (14-for-41) over his last 10 games for short-season Single-A Auburn. He had a 4-for-5 performance at Vermont July 23. He led off the game with a home run, added a triple and finished with two RBIs.

In 35 minor league games this season, Robles is hitting .369 (45-for-122) with seven doubles, four triples, four homers, 18 RBIs, 14 stolen bases and 24 runs. His overall OPS is 1.049.

Robles was named Player of the Week in the New York-Penn League on July 27.

His teammate, 22-year-old right-hander Erick Fedde, has 33 strikeouts in his first 30 innings with Auburn. The 2014 first-rounder is 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA and only seven walks. They have capped him at a max of five innings a start as he progresses on schedule away from Tommy John surgery last season.

Left-hander Richard Bleier, 28, gave up nine hits but only two earned runs in a no-decision for Triple-A Syracuse on July 27. He has accumulated a 1.88 ERA in his last 10 games, going 5-2 in 67 innings. Bleier has a 8-3 record with a 2.45 ERA for Double-A Harrisburg this season, with 40 strikeouts and nine walks in 15 starts (16 games).

His teammate is right-hander Austin Voth, who has the other sub-3.00 starter ERA on the staff at 2.94 in 20 starts. The 23-year-old Voth is 2-1 with a 2.38 ERA in his last 10 starts, with 55 strikeouts and 16 walks. His last start went only 1 1/3 innings due to a 98-minute rain delay.

Right-hander Stephen Strasburg (oblique) will make his second rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse against Pawtucket on Monday night in Syracuse. He is scheduled to go at least five innings and around 80 pitches. If all goes well, he could return for a start for the Nationals next weekend against the Colorado Rockies at home.
