Minor league injury updates on Delmonico, Joseph and more

Nicky Delmonico, ranked as the Orioles' fourth-best prospect by Baseball America, was put on the Single-A Frederick disabled list yesterday, meaning he will miss at least seven days. Delmonico suffered a concussion in a game Thursday while sliding into second base. In 11 Keys games, he is batting .325 with two homers, nine RBIs, a .600 slugging percentage and 1.071 OPS. Delmonico homered in back-to-back games this past Monday and Tuesday. Orioles director of player development Brian Graham said the club hopes he will be out only seven to 10 days, but it's too soon to know for sure. Also, per new rules implemented in the last few years, any player with a concussion now must be cleared by Major League Baseball before he returns to the field. Once O's doctors clear Delmonico to return, MLB doctors will have to do the same before he returns. Meanwhile, Frederick outfielder Trent Mummey recently underwent surgery on an injured hamstring and is expected to be out six to eight weeks. He had played in just two games. Frederick catcher Michael Ohlman is on the disabled list with a right shoulder injury and will not take part in any activity for about a week and then be re-evaluated. He was injured while batting when he moved to get out of the way of a pitch Monday and fell to the ground, injuring his throwing shoulder. Double-A Bowie's Caleb Joseph is day-to-day after he left last night's game when he fouled a ball off his left shin. It was in the same exact area he hurt in a first base collision a few days ago. He is off to a great start, batting .339 with four homers and 20 RBIs for the Baysox. In going 0-for-1 last night, his nine-game RBI streak, believed to be a team record, came to an end. Bowie outfielder Kyle Hudson left last night's game with a groin strain and is day-to-day. Bowie's Buck Britton continued his good start by driving in another run last night. Zach's brother is now batting .310 with two homers, 16 RBIs and a .865 OPS over 14 Baysox games. He has driven in at least one run in nine of his past 11 games. Joseph ranks second in the Eastern League with his 20 RBIs and Britton is third with his 16.
